This is a lovely white ironstone French circular berry strainer, dating from the early 20th Century, with a gorgeous timeworn patina.
Bearing a mark for Sarreguemines on its base which dates it to the 1920s, this pierced white ironstone berry bowl has a timeless and classic look to it. Standing on a slightly raised base, this item was designed to be used to rinse berries clean.
This bowl is ideal used on display as part of a kitchenalia collection, and is good for day to day use when washing or peeling fruit and vegetables.
In it in good condition, with no cracks or crazing. There is light coffee coloured staining to the bottom part of the bowl where it's been used but this adds natural patination to the piece. There is also a hairline crack on the base, but this is stable. Otherwise, this is a beautiful item.
Diameter, 20.5cm; Height, 4.5cm
