Antique French Carved Butter Brick - Cow Decoration

This is a great sized antique French butter brick mould, dating from the early 20th Century.

A lovely large size, there is a fabulous carved image of a grazing cow. Often, the carvings in these moulds helped to identify where butter was produced, in this case it was most likely represented the dairy farm which produced the butter. I particularly like the addition of the cow bell around its neck.

This mould has all its original cast iron fittings. Joined with a hinge at one end, the other end has a hook and latch allowing the top of the mould to be removed and enable easy access once the butter has set.

With its rustic patina, this would look beautiful simply sat proudly on display to give a rustic touch to your interior kitchen styling.

This mould is in rustic condition and there are a number of old worm holes across the piece. However, this has been treated. The wood has also weathered and worn in places, most notably around the fittings from where it has been used. There is light staining and discolouration to the wood as well but this is in keeping with its age and the carving of the cow is still very distinguishable.
