Antique French Breadboard with Carved Daily Bread Motto

A nice example of an antique French breadboard or platter with a carved motto, dating from the mid 20th Century, with a "Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread" motto in French.

This breadboard oozes character and charm, with a rich colour and patina from many years of use. The shape of the board is also very unusual and has a lovely feature in the tied ears of wheat at the base of the board. 

The motto is the French equivalent of Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread. It reads, “Donnez Nous Notre Pain Quotidien”. 

This is a solid piece. It has a scrubbed finish, the result of where it has been cleaned over the years, but waxing would add more depth of colour. There are a number of old worm holes across these piece. These are mainly on the back of the board, and it has in any event been treated.
