Antique French Boudoir or Glove Box

Fabric boxes like this were popular amongst French women in the early 20th Century to store clothing accessories. Boxes this shape were intended to store gloves in.

I love how the bright colours on this still pop. Perfect now for many uses arounf the home, especially for haberdashery and sewing storage.

Available from high end department stores, this one has its original label on the back for Samaritaine.

Covered in its original French textile fabric, the lid has a padded section and the inside is lined with a bright contrasting paper.

This box is in good vintage condition and is still very usable, with the lid opening and closing with ease. The fabric has frayed on some of the edges and corners from where it has been used over time, but on the whole it is in tact. There is also a small tear to the inner lining. But there are no loose pieces of fabric or patches. There are also some minor stains to the fabric but, on the whole, the colours are as they were at the time of production and it remains a beautiful and vibrant piece.
