Antique French Blue Transferware Compote Dish by Sarreguemines
Antique French Blue Transferware Compote Dish by Sarreguemines
This French ironstone compote dish, dating from the early 20th Century, has a gorgeous timeworn charm and patina.
Made by Sarreguemines in the early 20th Century, this ironstone compote dish has taken on a natural weathered look over the years, with coffee coloured staining and crazing in places. This is particularly notable on the top of the dish and on the stand but gives a natural timeworn charm to the dish. On the base is a clear Sarreguemines maker's mark.
There are no chips but there is a crack running through the top of the dish. This too has stained, blending in with the worn patina of the piece. Although it runs through the top plate, the dish is nonetheless structurally sound. The crack can only be felt very finely on the base and it is stable. There is also one fine hairline on the edge but this too is stable.
Compote dishes like this are great for use as a kitchen centrepiece, for fruit like lemons or as a large dessert bowl.
