Antique French Aqua Blue Enamel Cast Iron Spittoon

This 19th Century enamelled French cast iron spittoon, in a turquoise colour, is a lovely example with still very vivid colouring.

With a decorative border, this spittoon is in excellent condition for its age, with minimal oxidisation and no loss to the cast iron. 

Although these pieces have a rather unhygienic backstory (they would have been filled with sand and left on bar tops and counters for customers to spit into), in modern times they are highly decorative feature pieces in their own right, and are stunning display stands.

This piece has suffered some minor oxidisation to the base. There is some light wear to the enamel on the top of the stand, including a small but stable crack in one corner. There is also a build up of some limescale in the base. However, overall the condition is very good.
