Antique French Aged Terre De Fer Transferware Compote Dish
Antique French Aged Terre De Fer Transferware Compote Dish
This is a stunning aged and weathered French ironstone compote dish, dating from the late 19th Century, with a gorgeous timeworn charm and patina, and deep blue transferware pattern.
Made by Terre de Fer in the late 19th Century, this ironstone compote dish has taken on a natural weathered look over the years, with lightly stained coffee coloured crazing all over. This complements the gorgeous deep coloured floral pattern on the piece.
Apart from the timeworn crazing, this compote is otherwise in very good condition. There are no chips. There is a crack on one edge of the plate. This is difficult to identify from the top of the plate as it is quite tight but can be seen on the underside. Nonetheless, the compote is in a stable condition. On its base is a clear maker’s mark.
Footed dishes like this are great for use as a kitchen centrepiece, for fruit like lemons or as a large dessert bowl.
