Antique Edwardian White Ironstone Scale Plate - WT Avery Royal Warrant
Antique Edwardian White Ironstone Scale Plate - WT Avery Royal Warrant
A wonderful example of a rarely seen antique white ironstone scale plate, featuring an impressive advertising logo, which dates from the early 1900s.
This is a rare Edwardian scale plate, which would have originally been part of a set of scales. WT Avery were scale manufacturers, and held the Royal Warrant to produce goods for the Royal household too. This plate advertises this fact, showing that they have been appointed to produce wares for King Edward VII.
The Royal Crest features centrally on this plate in black underglaze transfer print. There is a small amount of wear but it is mostly very clear. The plate itself is also very clean, with just a few age marks to the surface and some mild staining and rubbing to the back and sides from where it would have been used. There are no cracks, crazing or chips on the piece.
This scale plate is a reasonably small version, measuring 20.5cm in diameter and 1cm in height. This makes it perfect for display purposes and for use as a small cheese board or platter. The ironstone will keep produce cool for some time.
