A hard to find large white ironstone lidded sardine dish, with gilt edging, dating from the early part of the 20th Century.

This is a stunning antique white ironstone dish. With its original lid, the sardine on top acts as the lid's handle. With faded gilt edging around the edges of both the lid and its base, as well as on the features of the sardine itself, this gives the piece an added lift. This is a beautiful antique piece, with lovely detail on the moulded sardine as well the ribbed shaping to all sides of both the base and the lid. It is also quite a weighty and quality piece of antique kitchenalia.

There is a faded mark to the base. Although I cannot make out the maker's details, I suspect it may be German in origin, as many of these dishes were.

This dish is in overall good condition for its age. There is an area of staining in one of the corners inside the base - a grease mark from previous use. There is also a fine tight hairline on the lid which is about 3cm in length, although this is stable. There are also three very small nibbles to the outside rim of the lid, although these one or two of these may be glazing imperfections.

Length, 19.5cm; Width, 17.5cm; Height, 10cm
