This is a listing for a striking antique Edwardian grocers price sign, which is a wonderful piece of antique shop advertising ephemera.
Made of tin, with an enamel face, the use of bold font and vibrant colours really stand out on these antique pieces. I can just imagine how colourful the food displays would have looked with an array of signs like this on display in the shops.
Dating from around 1900, this grocers spike is in good condition for its age. There are some scratches to the enamel, plus wear to the enamel around the border. There are also mild patches of oxidisation around the edge of the sign and on the back.
However, the colouring and typography is still very clear. The pillarbox red colouring of the numbers stands out and makes a bold impression against the beige backdrop. A golden border can still be made out in both pieces, although the enamel here has worn a little more.
