A wonderful and rarely seen example of an antique lidded white ironstone cheese or butter dish, dating from the early twentieth Century, featuring advertising for St Ivel cheese.

Dating from the 1910s, this ironstone butter or cheese dish was produced by renowned potters Wilkinson Ltd. It is rare to see these now, especially in such lovely condition as this.

Featuring advertising for the St Ivel cheese brand in a vivid blue on both sides of the lid, the underglaze transfer to both sides has lasted well and is still very clear. This would have been produced to support an advertising campaign for their cheese at the time, and the dish would have been intended for use as a cheese dish. It would be ideal for a small piece of dish now or, alternatively, might be a better size for use as a butter dish instead.

This dish is in excellent and very clean condition, it appears unused and just has a few odd firing marks in places and a tiny nibble on one corner of the base of the lid. There are cracks or crazing.

A great piece of antique advertising which would look lovely in a kitchenalia collection or for those wanting to achieve country or farmhouse look.

Length, 18.5cm; Width, 14cm; Height, 8cm. The lid measures 12cm long, 9cm wide and 4cm tall inside.
