Antique Early 20th Century Large White Ironstone Drainer by Grimwades
A rare, highly collectable antique white ironstone drainer, dating from the early 20th Century.
This is a great piece of collectable kitchenalia. Grimwades patented its white ironstone pieces of kitchen equipment in the early part of the 20th Century. They would commonly use their trademark green transfer print to highlight both the benefits of their products and to instruct customers how to use them.
Ceramic drainers like this were usually placed in sinks or on deep plates to help wash fruit and vegetables. In modern times, these are a great size to help items display around the kitchen.
The text reads: "The Grimwade - Patent Hygienic Conflex Flutes. Drainer. Bevel Edge Holes."
This example is a little larger than those normally found and is in good overall condition considering its age. There are no cracks or chips on the piece with the exception of a small flake to the glaze on one edge. There is age related crazing all over, which has lightly stained in places. There are also some age spots and odd firing faults, most notably on the top rim of the drainer. But overall it is a clean piece with the green transfer print text still strong and legible.
