Antique Early 20th Century Dairy Supply Co Aerolite Egg Carrier
Antique Early 20th Century Dairy Supply Co Aerolite Egg Carrier
This is a rarely seen example of a egg transportation box made by the Dairy Supply Company in the early 20th Century.
This travelling eggs box is an excellent display piece to have around home. While one side has faded, all three other sides of the box have advertising clearly printed on them, in black typography.
The front of the box carries the maker's name: "Sole Manufacturers: Dairy Supply Co Limited. London, Edinburgh, Cork & Belfast." In addition, the box size, for 4 dozen eggs, is also printed here. The other sides of the box feature the box name, "Aerolite Egg Carrier".
The Dairy Outfit Company produced a range of shop equipment, including egg boxes in a range of sizes. Boxes like these were designed to transport large numbers of eggs safely.
This box is in overall fair condition. Most notably, there are old worm holes all over the box although this has been treated. There is also some wear and loss to the wood in places, most notably near the bottom rim. The original metalwork is in place, although this has oxidised over time. The inside base has suffered a little water damage at some point and has consequently warped slightly. There are also some surface scratches and marks. But in spite of these flaws, this box is nonetheless an excellent feature piece to have on display in the home.
