Antique Early 20th Century Carved Wooden Breadboard
Antique Early 20th Century Carved Wooden Breadboard
A wonderful carved English breadboard, made by Bramhall in the early to mid 20th Century, with the word "Bread" clearly carved into its border.
This is a great example of a carved English bread board, with crisp carving of the 'Bread' motto at the top and a scrubbed finish making it perfect for ongoing day to day use.
Carved breadboards were extremely popular household items at the time. This breadboard were made by one of the most famous manufacturers of breadboards at the time, Bramhall, notable for the use of a teardrop in the top of the carved letter 'B' of their boards.
Despite its age, the carving on this "Bread" board is still very nicely defined and clear, framed by simple leaves on each side.
This antique breadboard has a nice light colour and is in very good condition. It sits flat and so is very usable. There are some normal knife marks from use and some small marks of staining, but these aren't too notable. The back of the board has also been scrubbed clean but there is some wax remaining. Should a richer colour be desired, it would be possible to wax the board once again.
