Antique 19th Century Jewel Casket or Patch Box

Such a beautiful piece, this is an excellent example of a 19th Century French ormolu jewel casket, with bevelled glass and silk lining in emerald green. It would have been used to display small pieces of special jewellery and is in an elaborate Napoleon III style.

Formed of pressed brass with an ormolu finish, this is a highly decorative piece, with beautiful designs to the main case, cabriole style legs and even the base of the box. 

Considering the age of this box, it is in remarkable condition. The ormolu remains bright, with few areas of discolouration. All the fittings for the bevelled glass are in perfect order still, and the glass itself has no damage.  There are some tiny frays to the thread on the silk lining but nothing substantial.
