Rare Antique 19th Century Circular Herb Chopper
Rare Antique 19th Century Circular Herb Chopper
This antique herb chopper or sugar cleaver oozes quality and style.
Dating from the late 19th Century, this is a wonderful tactile herb chopper in an unusual shape.
There are two maker's marks on the steel blade chopper, one of which is for Vaughan's who likely produced the steel. I don't recognise the other. The steel is encased in a wonderfully tactile treen handle, which has been fixed together with copper rivets, adding an element of sophistication and added quality to the piece. The circular shape makes it a lovely piece to handle and use.
The steel blade is a little pitted and stained in places, and there are also some patches of staining on the handle. There is a small scorch mark on one side of the handle but this isn't overly notable and it is still a very usable and decorative item for the kitchen.
