This is a listing for a larger sized 19th Century white ceramic pharmaceutical bowl.
This round based medicinal bowl is a rare survivor. It would have been used for medicinal and pharmaceutical purposes, to grind and mix various lotions and pastes.
It is made of a very fine porcelain and is therefore extremely fragile. Given its use and age it’s surprising to have survived in such excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The only signs of age are various stains to the ceramic, where they had different substances mixed in them and also on the base of the pot, where it must have been stood in different substances. But this has left a unique timeworn appeal and charm.
In summary, this is an excellent antique French piece which looks lovely displayed but is also incredibly useful around the home still, perhaps as small serving dish, soap plate or candle holder.
