Antique 19th Century French Ormolu Jewel Casket

Such a beautiful piece, this is an excellent example of a 19th Century French ormolu jewellery box, with bevelled glass and a beautiful pink silk cushion. It would have been used to display special pieces of jewellery.

Considering the age of this box, it is in remarkable condition. The ormolu remains bright and has not faded, with all the fittings for the glass in perfect order still, and just some minor tarnishing from old polish in places. The bevelled glass is in very good condition, with just two tiny areas of loss in two corners, and no other chips. And remarkably, the pink silk cushion has not frayed, with colouring still very vivid. The original clasp still works, keeping the lid in position.
