A stunning example of a large, chunky 19th Century carved wooden butter brick mould.
This wooden butter mould features nice carved detail of some berries. What's most impressive on this mould, though, is its chunkier size compared to most you see and rich patination.
This mould has all its original cast iron fittings. Joined with a hinge at one end, the other end has a hook and latch allowing the base to be removed and for easy access once the butter has set.
With its rustic patina, this would look beautiful simply sat proudly on display to give a rustic touch to your interior kitchen styling. But as it's in perfect working order, it's also ideal for more adventurous cooks who might want to try making their own butter.
Apart from general age and wear to the fittings, the mould is in excellent overall condition. There are a couple of areas where the wood has faded in colour slightly, mostly notable on the ends of the mould. There also appear to be some old worm holes, mostly notable on the base, but it has been treated.
Length, 21.5cm; Width, 15cm, Depth, 4.7cm (to make a butter block measuring 11.5cm x 6cm x 3.5cm)
