Antique 19th Century Aqua Blue Enamel Cast Iron Spittoon
Antique 19th Century Aqua Blue Enamel Cast Iron Spittoon
This 19th Century enamelled French cast iron spittoon, in a turquoise colour, is a lovely example.
With a decorative border, this spittoon is in fair condition for its age, with the aqua blue colouring still very strong and vivid despite some patches of oxidisation.
Although these pieces have a rather unhygienic backstory (they would have been filled with sand and left on bar tops and counters for customers to spit into), in modern times they are highly decorative feature pieces in their own right, and are stunning display stands.
This piece has suffered some oxidisation and wear to the enamel all over, but there are no holes to the cast iron and this adds a unique and authentic timeworn charm to the spittoon.
