A delightful and very rarely seen antique early 20th Century white ironstone match striker.
Dating from the 1920s, this match striker roller features impressive advertising for Apollinaris, a German mineral water. Using different font types for the company name, it is an impressive looking item. Especially as the text complements the deep royal blue trim around the piece. Made by a London company, Hodan and Wellings, their maker’s mark appears on the base.
This match strike has seen a good degree of use over the years, with some wear to the striking surface. But it’s still perfectly usable and makes for an excellent display item.
On the whole the white ironstone is very clean. There are some minor patches of crazing plus a little staining to the top rim. But otherwise it’s in excellent order.
