This is a nice example of an antique advertising whisk, made by Cadbury Bournville, in the early part of the 20th Century.
Dating from the 1920s, these whisks were intended to be used to make Cadbury’s drinking chocolate. Reasonably large in size, it’s more likely they were used in cafes or restaurants at the time, or in large houses.
This is a very attractive piece of antique advertising ware to have on display in the kitchen. The hardwood handle reads “MAKE DRINKING CHOCOLATE WITH BOURNVILLE COCOA”, wrapped around it in black typography.
The whisk section does have some oxidisation, plus there is some light surface wear to the handle where a small amount of varnish has worn away. But all of the typography is very clear still. The wirework loop, which moves up and down the whisk to make it open or close, is still fully operative. y.
A lovely piece of antique kitchenalia.
Length, 23.5cm; Width, 6.5cm (with whisk open) and 4.5cm (with whisk closed). Handle is 1.5cm wide.
