This is a listing for an aged and timeworn Clarke’s ‘Fairy’ Pyramid nightlight holder, dating from around the 1930s.
Featuring prominent advertising all over, this example has been buried underground for a number of years, resulting in staining and wear all over. In spite of this, the under glazed black typography advertising is still prominent, with just a few areas where this has faded. And whilst the glaze has perished a little in some places, and there is some crazing, it is otherwise in remarkably good condition with just some minor chips to the top rim. There is however a repair to the pouring lip, but this isn't overly notable.
Designed to use with Clarke’s pyramid night lights, the rhyming saying on the back of the pot is a real treasure. Although this has faded in places, some of the rhyme can still be recognised.
“When nights are dark then think of Clarke, who’s hit the mark precisely; For his night-lights crest light-nights in which you see quite nicely”
The pot is missing its original lid. However, it’s nonetheless still a very attractive piece of antique advertising in its own right. A great example of antique English advertising on ironstone pots which would look wonderful displayed in the home.
