This French ironstone compote dish, dating from the late 19th Century, features a striking royal blue transferware border and central motif, and is in mint condition.  

Raised on a small footed stand, this terre de fer cake plate is perfect both for display and use. It has a mark for JS & Co on its base which dates it to the 1890s. The pattern, 'Grec', features a Greek key border but with added French floral flourishes.  

Apart from a small number of minor age spots on the surface, and some light surface crazing, this is in excellent clean condition. There are no cracks or chips and the deep blue colouring is still deep and rich in colour.
