Available to purchase individually are these two stunning 19th Century pink transferware terre de fer plates.
Carrying an impressed terre de fer and horn mark on their base (the maker is not known to me), these are very pretty transferware plates. Featuring a straw hat with elaborate floral decoration, foliage, insects and butterflies, the design of these plates packs in so much wonderful detail. Each plate has a country feel to it, which extends to the rustic border of leaves and berries.
Both plates have developed a timeworn patina in their history. The left plate has more coffee coloured staining and crazing. There is also crazing on the plate on the right, which has also weathered (but perhaps a little more gently) over time. The right plate also has a fine crack to the centre, although this is stable.
