1930s Large White Ironstone Wash Basin With King George VI Royal Cypher
A rare opportunity to acquire a wonderful large white ironstone wash basin, dating to 1939 and carrying the Royal Cypher for George VI, the late Queen's father. The cypher indicates the bowl would have been intended for use in the British Royal family's estate.
In fair condition for its age, this large ironstone bowl has seen some use over the years. As a result, there is some crazing which has lightly stained in the base of the bowl. There are also some small knocks to the top rim. Most notably, there are some chips and a crack to the base rim, although the crack is not a hairline and the piece is structurally sound.
The green Royal cypher is prominent on the inside of the bowl. The timing of the bowl's production is particularly poignant, when World War II was breaking out. Made by Mintons, the maker's mark is clearly visible on the base of the jug.
