Antique Victorian White Ironstone Miniature Advertising Pots for James Keiller Dundee Marmalade
Very rare examples of the tiny miniature version of the James Keiller Dundee Marmalade Pots or Crocks, available for sale individually. Please note the pot on the far right has sold.
These ironstone James Keiller marmalade pots were all handmade by Maling of Newcastle in the late Victorian period. The company produced their marmalade pots in a variety of sizes, and these are the more scarce examples of the mini marmalade pot.
The pots feature exactly the same black transfer print advertising James Keiller’s Dundee Marmalade, which has won numerous awards at international exhibitions, only in miniature format. Standing at only 5.5cm tall, they are exceptionally sweet and cute versions.
As most jars were discarded with common waste at the time, they often have discoloration and chips. However, this adds to their charm as highly decorative, weathered and chippy pieces.
These examples were recently recovered from a Victorian dump. In spite of this, they are exceptionally clean examples which is rare for items which are dug up. Unsurprisingly, there are some imperfections in them all, as listed below, but these aged features add to their character, and would make a unique talking point amongst a white ironstone or English advertising pot collection.
FAR-LEFT POT: The black transfer print is a little blurred on close inspection, and there is some light crazing to the piece. There is also a small chip and a hairline crack on the rear side, although the pot is still in a very stable condition and displays well. £49.00
MIDDLE-LEFT POT: Nice, clean condition with no cracks or chips. There is some surface crazing, which has discolored in places with age, most notably as rings on the inside of the pot. The transfer print, while still clearly legible, has faded a little. £52.00
