Pair of Antique White Ironstone J Sainsburys Potted Meat Jars
A lovely example of late Victorian or early twentieth Century Edwardian advertising in the form of a cute pair of small sized J Sainsbury’s potted meat ironstone jars.
These white ironstone pots were produced for J Sainsbury’s, a popular grocers shop in England which has now grown into one of the biggest and most popular supermarkets in the UK.
These pots were widely produced at the turn of the Century for packaging potted meats. It’s a great example of packaging and advertising from the time, with black transfer print advertising the shop with the lovely “S” logo featured.
As with all antique and vintage items, these pots do show signs of its age although in my opinion this adds to the look and character of them. There are no cracks or chips to these examples, and both transfers are still visible, although this has faded a little on one of the pots. Both have some crazing in places, as well as discoloration marks in places. There is wear to both the rims, one of which is more notable.
These are great items to add to a kitchenalia collection or simply have on display in a kitchen or to use as a trinket pot or small vase for succulents.
