Vintage Mid Century White Ironstone English Advertising Pot Lid – Fortnum & Mason Caviar
A rare English advertising caviar pot lid for the world famous Fortnum & Mason’s in Piccadilly, London, dating from the mid 20th Century.
This wonderful white ironstone Fortnum & Mason’s caviar pot is a rare survivor. Appointed as grocers to the Royal household, the Royal Warrant appears on the lid, together with the company’s address in Piccadilly, London. Fortnum & Mason’s is an iconic British brand. Available in a range of sizes, this is a lid from one of the small sized pots that would have been available.
Caviar would only have been available to purchase at the Piccadilly store and these white ceramic containers were also considered throwaway items. So these little pots and their lids are now extremely hard to find.
In overall good and clean condition, this pot lid is an excellent example. The transfer on the lid is still clearly legible. And the sturgeon is in perfect condition. There are no chips, cracks or crazing and the main signs of wear are some age spots and wear to the base rim. In summary, it’s a great decorative display piece.
