Vintage French White Ironstone Banded Kitchen Jar for Rillettes de Tours

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

This is a fabulous French white ironstone storage jar, featuring lettering advertising “Rillettes de Tours” on its front in olive green transfer print, dating from the mid 20th Century.

Rillettes de Tours is a famous French pork dish, much like a pate, which is especially popular in the Loire valley (where Tours is located).

Complete with its original lid, this ironstone advertising pot is in mint condition. There is no crazing, chips or cracks. The only small issues are a tiny firing fault on the edge of the top rim which looks like a small nibble and a small area of discoloration, also on the rim. On the base is the maker’s mark for ‘Les Ets Barb. er Freres’ who were based in Tours.

The green transfer print is very clear, and the style of the typography is typically French in its art deco style.

Height, 14cm (to top of lid); Width, 9.5cm
