Rare Two Pound Chubby Shaped Victorian James Keiller Dundee Marmalade Advertising Pot
This is a listing for a scarce large Victorian two pound chubby James Keiller Dundee marmalade pot, in a chippy and weathered condition.
Made by the Maling factory in Newcastle in around 1900, these larger two pound “chubby” size advertising pots are harder to source.
The James Keiller company produced their advertising pots for their Dundee marmalade in a variety of sizes, and this is the rarer example of the chubbier, larger 2lb crock.
As most jars were discarded with common waste at the time, they often have discoloration and chips. However, this adds to their charm as highly decorative, weathered and chippy pieces.
This pot is in a chippy and weathered condition, reflecting its time spent underground. It has crazing all over, which has different colouring and staining to it. There are also two significant chips, one at the back on the top rim and one on the base, as well as some more minor nibbles to the base.
However, there are no cracks and the transfer to the front is still very clear. It’s rich patina makes it an excellent display piece, full of character.
