Victorian White Ironstone Banded Kitchen Storage Jar for Barley
A highly collectable Victorian banded white ironstone storage jar for “BARLEY”, in good condition with its original lid.
These white ironstone storage jars were popular in the early part of the late nineteenth and early twentieth Century, when foodstuffs were often sold in loose measures in local grocers shops. The “BARLEY” label on this pot is still very clear and visible, in lovely etched detail, within a nice sweeping ribbon banner
This Victorian jar is in great overall condition, with no crazing or cracks. There is a firing fault on the top rim, which has stained, together with some mild age spots from where this pot has seen some use, also on the top rim. There are also some nibbles to the top rim, and a very small chip. The base of the lid also has some mild staining and a couple of small chips.
Nonetheless, it’s a great size and is a very clean piece, showing off a great white ironstone colour. A great piece either to start or add to a collection of white ironstone antique storage jars.
