Antique Victorian Treen Five-Tiered Spice Tower Complete with Original Labels

rare victorian antique treen wooden five tier spice tower chest original labels

A fantastic rarely seen antique Victorian treen spice tower complete with its original labels and in excellent condition.

Dating from the mid 1800s, it’s rare to see spice towers like this in such wonderful condition still. All five of the original labels for each tier are in tact and clearly legible – for Allspice, Cloves, Cinnamon, Mace and Nutmegs.

The colour and patination on this tower are wonderfully warm and rich. The wood is a rich honey colour. While there are some external splits to the wooden veneers on some of the tiers, one of which goes through the ‘Cinnamon’ label, these do not penetrate through to the containers which are all fully in tact.

There are some scuffs and knocks to the tower in places, but these all add to its timeworn appeal. Most notably, there is a minor loss to the base rim of the Cinnamon section which is just under 2cm in length. This would have happened some time ago and it is all in solid condition.
