Antique Victorian Carved English Treen Bread Knife with Wheat Pattern Handle and Steel Blade
A fine example of a large and nicely carved early 20th Century bread knife, with wheat detail.
This steel bladed carved bread knife dates from the late Victorian or Edwardian period. A handmade piece, it has a quality join between the blade and the handle.
The wheat detail on the handle is nicely carved and has a lovely finial end. The handle has a few scuffs and marks from age, but these don’t detract from its timeworn character.
It is joined to a steel which has oxidised from contact with water over the years, as is common with these types of knives. The blade has also thinned a little, from regular use and sharpening.
Overall, though, it is a quality piece of treen kitchenalia.
