Victorian Stoneware English Advertising Pot – Riley’s Dairies Thick Cream
This is a listing for ONE antique stoneware advertising cream pot for Riley’s Dairies of Hull, Bridlington & Scarborough. A total of two pots are available for sale in either a large or smaller size.
These are very nice examples of two English advertising pots, dating from the end of the 19th Century.
Both pots have very clear transfer print advertising in black, featuring a cow in the middle framed at the top by the name “Riley’s Dairies” in a ribbon band. Under the cow, the dairy locations are listed: Hull, Bridlington and Scarboro’ (short for Scarborough). At the bottom, also in a ribbon band, is the text “Rich Thick Cream”.
Considered a throwaway item at the time they were produced, these English advertising pots were salvaged from an old Victorian dump. In spite of their history, they are in very good condition with nice clear transfers still.
Both pots have some wear, age spots and discolouration. The smaller pot also has a hairline running down its back.
