Victorian Square Carved Bread Board Decorated with Acorns & Oak Leaves

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A wonderful square carved treen wooden breadboard, dating from the Victorian period, and in excellent condition.

It can be rare to find square wooden antique bread boards which haven’t warped over time. This breadboard is in excellent condition and still sits lovely and flat. It isn’t quite square, with one side 0.5cm longer than the other, but it looks near enough to the naked eye.

Each corner of this Victorian square bread board features two carved acorns sitting amongst oak leaves. Although the carving of the leaves has faded a little through use, the acorns have been deeply carved into the board and so are still very prominent. The board also stands out in that it is quite thick and sturdy, with the central carving area framed by a deep round border.

The bread board is in lovely overall condition. There are knife marks in the central part of the board from use, plus some wear to the pattern of the oak leaves. But it still displays very well and would make a striking addition to the modern kitchen.

The board has bleached lighter over the years, although the areas where there are knife marks have gone darker in some areas, creating a unique and lovely looking patina. It looks great as it is, but could also be waxed and polished for display.

26cm x 25.5cm width & length; 2.5cm deep.
