Antique Victorian Rare Dairy Supply Company White Ironstone Cream or Milk Jug
A rare opportunity to acquire a vivid blue topped white ironstone dairy jug made by the Dairy Supply Company in the late 1800s.
Dating from the late Victorian period, this blue rimmed ironstone jug would have been used in a dairy or grocers shop to serve milk or fresh cream to customers. It bears the mark of renowned shop outfitters at the time, the Dairy Supply Company, on its base.
In almost daily use, antique dairy jugs like this are rare survivors and are very often damaged. This example has at some point lost its handle, and a rather crude replacement has been made. Notwithstanding this, it’s a wonderful antique English pot with minimal wider damage apart from a nic to the pouring lip and usual nibbles to the base rim.
The blue coloured top rim is very vibrant and vivid still. The whole piece is covered in stained crazing, but this adds a wonderful timeworn charm.
