Victorian Large Deeply Carved Treen Butter Stamp with Sunflower Decoration
This is a quality piece of antique treen kitchenalia dating from the nineteenth Century, with a beautifully and deeply carved sunflower design.
This large sized hardwood butter stamp or butter mould/mold has a nice mellow colour to it, with the carving of a sunflower in exquisite detail taking centre stage. Unusually, it also features two border patterns, making for a particularly impressive stamp.
Antique butter stamps look lovely displayed as part of a kitchenalia collection. They are also excellent used in the modern kitchen as biscuit stamps. They work particularly well on shortbread.
The butter print is in good overall condition. The stamp fits quite snugly into the outer casing, likely a result of years being unused. However, it is moveable by applying pressure. The outer casing also has four old worm holes, and there is also one on the handle. These are long gone but the stamp has nonetheless been treated for assurance.
