Antique Victorian Hand Blown Glass Compote or Sweetmeats Dish

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A stunningly simple design, yet very striking, this Victorian compote or sweetmeats dish is a wonderful shape and extremely useful around the home or as a display item.

This hand blown glass compote dates from the late 1800s. Simple in design, there are ten flattened edges which give a wonderful and unique shape to this dish. Possibly designed for use as a sweetmeats dish, which would have been very popular when entertaining at the time.

This compote is in excellent condition, especially considering its age. There are no chips to the glass and the only signs of age are some surface scratches. There are air bubbles from the time this was produced, but these add to the aged features of the compote.
