Antique Victorian Carved English ‘Bread’ Knife with Steel Blade
A wonderful English deeply carved wooden bread knife, dating from the mid to late 1800s.
This Victorian treen bread knife has been engraved “BREAD” which is, despite its use, is still nice and clear and has a wonderful mellow finish and feel to it. The hardwood handle has a warm rich colour and patina to it. The steel blade has worn through sharpening over the years, and has also tarnished through age. This is common with all steel blades of this time, as they oxidise from contact with water. It nonetheless still stands out as a quality piece, which can be seen through the handmade join to the handle.
In summary, this is an excellent piece of antique treen kitchenalia which will look lovely on display.
