Antique Victorian Silver Plated Carved English Butter Knife By Thomas Prime With Bone Handle

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A wonderful example of an intricately designed and carved plated silver butter knife by Thomas Prime & Sons in the mid to late 1800s.

This silver magneto plated butter knife dates from the Victorian period. The intricate pattern engraved is typical of the extravagence of the period. It is marked, and carries the maker’s name for the Prime company, who were a specialist silver plating company in the mid to late 1800s.

The butter knife has a bone handle which has nice carved detail around its edge. The silver plated collar also stands out and is very impressive on this piece.

In overall good condition, there is a very small crack in the side of the bone handle from the collar, about 2cm in length. There are also some minor patches of discoloration on the handle. However, the butter knife is very solid and is still perfectly usable.

Length, 19.5cm; Width, 2.5cm at widest point of handle.
