Antique Victorian Carved English Wooden Treen Butter Stamp With Ears of Corn

antique edwardian 1920s smiths crisps shop display glass jar counter

This is a quality piece of antique treen kitchenalia dating from the nineteenth Century, with excellent carved detail of ears of corn.

The large hardwood butter stamp or butter mould/mold is rich in colour, with the carving of corn in exquisite detail. The carving is still incredibly sharp and crisp, with the detail of the corn storks very striking indeed. It features an integral turned wood handle. The detail is the border is also very eye catching, with a wonderful scalloped edge.

The butter print is in excellent overall condition. There are some patches of discoloration in the wood, however this is something likely to have been on the piece since its production. There are also some very minor surface cracks on the mushroom back of the stamp. This has occurred through age, however the wood has not split.
