Antique Victorian Large Carved English Breadboard – Waste Not Motto

antique french 1800s white ironstone medium sized double sided poupon grey dijon mustard moutarde advertising pot

A wonderful example of an antique Victorian breadboard, dating from the late 1800s, with a “Waste Not” motto flanked by wheat ears.

This 19th Century breadboard just oozes character and charm, with its rich colour and patina. It’s a lovely example of an antique carved English bread board. The border of this board is carved with the words “Waste Not” in stylised, gothic style script, with wheat ears and simply carved leaves on each side. It has been well looked after, and waxed regularly, resulting in a rich and deep patina. The motto is still particularly prominent on this antique board.

The board is in overall great condition and sits completely flat, making it ideal for use as well as display. There are old knife marks from use, but these have blended well into the patina of the board, creating a natural timeworn appeal.

There is evidence of a small number worm holes on the front and back of the board. However, the board has been fully treated.
