Antique Plain White Ironstone Lidded Bucket – Ideal Planter or Wine Cooler

antique victorian lidded white ironstone slop bucket wicker handle

A lovely condition large Victorian white ironstone slop bucket, with its original wicker handle and lid, which could serve a multitude of uses in today’s modern home.

These wonderful ceramic buckets or pails were originally used for disposing of waste water, particularly after bathing, when bathrooms were uncommon.

This lovely white ironstone version is very solid and heavy with wonderful scrolled handles which are an integral part of the piece. The antique pail also still has its original wicker handle.

The large size of this bucket makes it perfect for use as an ice cooler for wine or champagne, comfortably able to hold up to three bottles at the same time. Its large and imposing size mean it also looks perfect on display or as part of a white ironstone kitchenalia collection.

This ironstone pail is in excellent clean condition. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There are some scuff marks around the top and base rims, as well as some tripod firing marks and blemishes to the inside base. However, overall it’s very clean and impressive. Although it has faded in colour over time, the wicker handle is also fully in tact. The lid has a crack to the glaze which is about 5cm in length. However, this doesn’t penetrate through and the whole piece is structurally sound.
