Victorian Antique Pine Two-Tier Spoon Rack with Heart Detail

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A great example of a two-tier Victorian pine spoon rack with capacity to hold up to 16 spoons.

Made of pine with simple, nailed construction, this pine on this spoon rack has a lovely rich honey colour and wonderful patina. The hole for hanging this onto the wall is in the shape of a heart, making this rack a little unusual. This treen spoon rack may be Welsh in origin, as they were often made to display Welsh cawl spoons.

This spoon rack is a great size, with capacity to hold eight spoons on each of the two tiers. The holes are all 18mm wide. It can be used for spoons or other kitchen utensils.

The spoon rack is in great overall condition. It is quite a rustic, handmade piece. As can be seen from the photos, the wood has been nibbled a little in places, most notably on the top ridge and the front corner of the top tier. This is old, though, and adds to the rustic character and aged charm of the piece. There is also an old split in the wood on the bottom tier. However, this doesn’t affect the use of the spoon rack in any way.

Width, 31.5cm; Depth, 23.5cm; Height, 27.5cm.
