Victorian Scottish Turned Treen Two Toned Mahogany & Boxwood Barrel Shaped Wall Mounted Salt Box

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A highly collectable Scottish treen hanging salt box, dating from the mid 1800s.

This Victorian wooden salt box is a lovely example, decoratively turned with attractive mouldings in two different types of wood. The light and rich honey colour carries over to the main frame of this antique salt box, contrasting nicely against a darker wood on the salt barrel itself. This is likely to be made in boxwood & mahogany.

This salt box has its original metal hinges and fittings. It is in nice condition overall, with the contrasting colours of the woods still very clear and of sturdy construction. There has been some wear to the wood in places, most notably on the top of the lid and on the right hand side of the barrel box. The piece still looks attractive, although it would also be possible to repair these areas. There are also some tiny specs of paint on the box in places.
