Rare Shaped Oval Early 20th Century Silver Plated Bread Board Platter
This is a nice, simply decorated English breadboard, dating from the early 20th Century.
This two-piece bread board is a unique oval shape. Consisting of two parts, a simple wooden oval platter sits inside a base silver plated oval tray. The board itself has a rich colour and patina. There are some deep knife marks from use, showing that this has been well loved. The result is a lovely looking piece. It has been waxed to maintain its colour, and the colour can be contrasted against the plainer back of the board.
The oval bread board sits inside a silver plated platter. The decorative trim adds interest. On the back it carries an engraving to show it is made from EPNS. The plate itself is worn and tarnished. This gives a timeworn effect but this could be re-plated very cost effectively if a more polished finish is desired.
In summary, this is a good piece of antique English kitchenalia which is both practical and decorative on display.
