Antique Victorian English Advertising Pot – Shippam’s High Class Potted Meat, Chichester
A lovely Victorian/Edwardian antique white ironstone packaging pot for Shippams high class potted meats, dating from the early 1900s.
This is a great example of antique advertising white ironstone pot for potted meat. The pot features black transfer print advertising text, in excellent condition, which says:
“SHIPPAM’S HIGH CLASS POTTED MEAT CHICHESTER”
If you look closely, each of the three lines of text uses a different font. This was very typical of the time, with considerable effort put in to the designs of quite simple objects. The middle line is particularly elaborate.
Considered a throwaway item at the time it was produced, this English advertising pot was salvaged from an old Victorian dump. In spite of its history, this pot is in very good condition. The transfer advertising is still very clear and overall the pot is very clean. There are no cracks or chips, just some nibbles to the base and top roll rim. There is light crazing all over and patches of darker staining.
