Rare Victorian Bryant & May “The Model Spice Box” Tolware Tin Set

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A fantastic rare toleware spice tin, “The Model Spice Box”, dating from the 1880s, with individual spice canisters for Ginger, Allspice, Cloves & Nutmeg, by Bryant & May, in excellent condition.

This is a wonderful Victorian metal spice box which remains in fantastic condition, with the original colouring of the toleware still very vivid. This is quite remarkable because the spice tins have clearly been in regular use, as there is a wonderful spicy aroma when they are opened.

The outside of the spice box has a wonderful gold, sparkly effect, which also features on the lid together with an ornate black pattern. The lid features impressive black typography, with “The Model” and “Spice Box” in different fonts.

Inside the box are four individual canisters for “Ginger”, “Allspice”, “Cloves” and “Nutmeg”. These have a rustier, burnt orange colour to them, which also features on the base of the lid.

Overall, this Victorian toleware spice box is in excellent condition. As is normal for toleware, there is some oxidisation and wear to the tin in places on close inspection, but it is a very usable and good looking piece of antique kitchenalia.

Diameter, 11cm; Height, 7.5cm; Individual canisters, 7cm tall & 4.5cm diameter.
