Antique Early 20th Century Large White Ironstone Curd Cheese Mould
This is a rarely found example of a large antique white ironstone curd cheese mould.
Dating from the early 20th Century, the inside of this plain whiteware mould is potted, aimed at creating a tiered effect on the curd cheese produced. This contrasts wonderfully with the smoother, rounded finish of the outside of the mould.
Given the age of this ironstone cheese strainer, it has suffered some light damage over the years. There is a small, but tight, hairline crack in the middle of the mould on one side which is about 2.5cm in length. The mould is very heavy, stable and usable still though.
There is also crazing and some patches of staining all over. The inside of the mould has suffered a little more damage, with some chips inside and on the external rim. There are also some glaze cracks but these do not penetrate through.
On the whole, though, this is still a good piece to use in the kitchen. It’s fantastic design and rustic finish also means it’s a great item to have on display.
